Updates:
1/22/10 - Okay, people, listen up.  This is the coolest thing ever!  I love Google Earth.  Satellite photos give incredible detail of every place on Earth. The photos here are from Google Earth.  It's just the best free download ever.  Now even better news:  "Street View" is now available for Chieuti and Serracapriola. After you've downloaded Google Earth, turn on Street View and click on a camera. Suddenly, you are on the street! Meander down the streets like you are taking a passeggiata with the paesani by clicking on the cameras. It's like a quick visit to the old country!
10/18/09 - I created a Chieuti and Serracapriola group on Facebook.  Please join the group!  Post your pictures!
10/10/09 - Dear readers:  it has been a long time since any updates.  I haven't forgotten about you!  I continue to do research.  In fact, today I just finished transcribing all of the Chieuti marriages records (1809-1929) which are available through the Family History Library!  Big accomplishment!  If you have ancestors from Chieuti, I'm sure I have information on them.  Now, I turn to the Serracapriola marriages . . .
4/12/09 - Carlo Orlando fans can email him directly here.
4/12/09 - Organized surnames differently.
3/27/09 - Another poignant story by Carlo Orlando.
3/22/09 - Updates galore!  Yes, I've had lots of time off.  New Update to Looking for Information page.  Pictures added to Chieuti-Albania page.  A new page!  Marco Venditti's Travelogue which describes his first trip to Chieuti.  Also, updates to my other website - Serracapriola Pages.

Welcome to Chieuti Pages

Most of the Italians who immigrated to the United States and elsewhere did not come from the Italy of the Medicis . . . A Room With a View . . . Under the Tuscan Sun . . . or even Rick Steves. Rather, they left from one of thousands of modest villages across Southern Italy, like the one in these photographs - Chieuti, in the province of Foggia, region of Apuglia.  My maternal grandparents - Donato Miniello and Maria Arcangela Sforza - were born in Chieuti in 1888 and I took these photos when I first visited in December of 2003.

Why Chieuti Pages?

When my mother died in 2001, I found that I had lost the connection to the culture I had grown up with - the Italian food, the Italian celebrations, the Italian ladies, the Italian relatives, the ITALIAN NOISE! And I missed it terribly. Researching my genealogy and creating Chieuti-Pages has been a way for me to reconnect with that culture, my many memories of Uncle Vance and Aunt Mary, and my mother, Rose Minelli House.  Since creating this web site in 2006, I have heard from many people around the world - Australia, Brazil, Argentina, Canada, Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, United States - whose ancestors came from Chieuti.  It has been gratifying in ways that I could never have imagined when I started.  Thank you for connecting!
